No matter the level of success, our impulse to stress eat, drink, or overwork all stem from ONE place and I explain it all in this episode of the Stressproof Podcast 👇
There isn't a single soul on this planet that hasn't ever felt an urge.
The urge to eat more chocolate.
The urge to pour the extra glass of wine.
The urge to fire off that email.
Or the urge to skip the workout and eat mac and cheese instead.
Inevitably, impulsive behavior such as overeating and pouring the glass of wine at 4pm, are becoming the norm as so many people struggle to keep it all together between the fast moving components of their job and of course their personal life too.
The good news is there is a solution.
But it will require you to get curious about your own impulses and ask the question, "What the heck am I REALLY running from?".
Because until we get curious we will continue to see undesirable results such as gaining weight and feeling less than stellar from having one too many glasses of wine the night before.
And before we know it we will then have to spend our precious time and energy solving an overeating or over drinking problem.
Not to mention the lack of productivity!
Listen to this episode as I reveal exactly what our impulses reveal and the top 3 reasons why our impulses feel so uncontrollable and what we can do about it.
TIMESTAMPS:
(0:47): Shelter in place, LA, gratitude, and more.
(2:03): Stress reveals our weakest link; example of stress testing via Jurassic Park.
(3:38): Why our impulses reveal some of our biggest, weakest link in our ecosystem of our brain and heart.
(4:20): What is an impulse and urge?
(6:20): The consequences of when we allow impulsive behavior.
(8:20): The number one reason we allow impulses is because we never question what we are feeling.
(11:29): The second reason we allow impulses is because we don’t know how to be with discomfort.
(12:17): Client example of impulsive eating due to boredom.
(13:33): Impulsive behavior is a result of ANY uncomfortable emotion by the individual. This can be even the feeling of happiness.
(15:20): The third reason we allow impulses is because we don’t manage our brain.
(18:50): When we overcome our impulses we constantly experience new delights because we’re not keeping ourselves in the same cycle of avoidance.
Everything you need to know about managing stress the RIGHT way.
"I feel as if a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm NOT crazy and everything makes so much sense now. Thank you!!"
"Thank you for everything. I cannot express how much your guidance and coaching means to me. I believe in significant “moments” in life. These are moments that shape, influence, and mold who we are and more importantly who we impact in a positive way. The past four weeks have been transformational for me personally. When I started with you, I felt I was getting through things with sheer determination and grit. Now, I’m in control. I can choose to be the professional, father, husband, friend, and leader I want to be. The possibilities are endless. Thank you so much for your assistance."
"This was the first weekend that I went to bed without melatonin or advil PM in MONTHS!"
"Susan, you are one of the smartest and most talented people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. The insights you've discovered through your journey will be helpful to a LOT of people!"
"During our first session I knew I found a kindred spirit, since she's overcome many of the same challenges. Her intuitive sense of what challenge to explore next and the models we used to uncover hidden mindset traps was so incredibly valuable to me. The biggest change is how equipped and supported I am now to face any fear with practical tools and empowering strategies. I am a different person today than when I began, thanks to Susan's transformational efforts. "
""Working with Susan has helped me take a break from my thoughts and discover an entirely knew way of looking at my stressors. After trying everything in the book to de-stress, Susan's approach gave me something tangible and progressively easier to apply in my life. After just one session with Susan I was able to put space in between my thoughts and create the kind of outcomes I wanted without wasting time trying to control my life and the lives of those around me. By applying the Personalization model to even the smallest things that were bothering me I was able understand the power I have to see the world in a way that lifts my life up instead of holding me back in anger."
